Following high school, Bert attended Central Carolina Technical
College in Sanford, NC for Radio/TV Broadcasting courses. Bert
returned to the foothills area of North Carolina in 1984 to take
his first radio broadcasting job at the now-defunct WUIV, a Christian
music station located in the small community of Icard.
About 6 months later, a co-worker loaned Bert enough money to buy
a pair of turntables, just in time to set up a miniature studio
booth for the radio station at the county fair. THAT’S how
IT started!
Over the next 16 years, Bert had tours of duty at radio stations
like:
• WKGX, Lenoir; • WCIS,
Morganton;
•
WSVM, Valdese; • WHKY, Hickory;
•
WKVS (Kicks 103); Lenoir • and most notably at:
WMNC
AM/FM, Morganton where he single-handedly created and assisted
in implementing the “Big Dawg” station promotional
campaign, which led the station to the highest ratings in years
with the assistance of Bert’s morning show hosting duties.
While Bert spent days radio broadcasting at various area stations,
evenings playing music at skating rinks and weekends providing
his services for class reunions, school dances, company holiday
parties and weddings among other events. The combination of radio
and mobile entertaining quickly honed Bert’s communication
skills. In November of 2000, Bert made the decision to abandon
radio and concentrate on building his company Magical Music. Since
that fateful day, Bert has committed himself to providing quality
entertainment for a variety of clients
and events. Bert’s
travels have seen him in area nightspots such as Impulse in Hickory,
NC; Mugshots in Morganton, NC; Legends in Morganton, NC; Thumper’s
in Morganton, NC; Sergeant Pepper’s in Hickory, NC; Buffalo
Wild Wings in Hickory, NC and High Point, NC; Bo’s Neighborhood
Grill & Bar in Lenoir, NC; Hickory Tavern in Hickory, NC and
Smokey Creek Bar-B-Q in Burke County, NC.
Bert has used his experiences at these venues to transform himself
into a more versatile entertainer and showman. It’s not uncommon
for clients to comment on Bert’s ability to know what song
to play or what activity to conduct at just the right time. It’s
only natural then that Magical Music is the preferred choice of
brides and event planners who are fortunate enough to learn of
Bert and his talents.
On
a personal note, Bert is married to Cyndi Clark. They have two
children: Alex, 11 and Emily, 7. The family resides at the home
where Bert first put needle to vinyl on his dad’s portable
phonograph.
Few
have been fortunate enough to turn “air guitar” into
a paying gig, but Magical Music’s Lee Burnette has done
just that! Lee’s love of music stems from early childhood
by listening to his brother’s music collection. Not content
to just listen, Lee often pretended to play guitar or drums along
with the likes of KISS, Van Halen and Journey.
His
air guitar & air drum passions lead Lee to become a musician
at the age of 5. Lee is versatile, having taken 10 years of piano
lessons as well as playing 4 different instruments in high school
band in addition to studying all styles of guitar.
Following
high school, Lee and 3 lifelong friends forged a successful regional
rock ensemble called “The Steven Hollar Band”. The
group garnered such a loyal following that two years after the
band’s demise, it was still voted favorite band in the western
NC region in 2004.
In
2007, Lee joined the Christian Rock Band “7 Miles”
as bass guitarist and still performs with the band today. This
independent band has sold over 100-thousand albums and performs
up and down the east coast
Lee
first began working with Magical Music in the mid-nineties and
gained a love for the world of DJ performance. After pursuing
other ventures for several years, he rejoined Magical Music and
currently serves as Performing DJ and karaoke host.
Lee
is married to Ashley Hall. In 2009, the couple gave birth to a
son named Tristan.
